Neyah van der Aa strengthens Van Doorne's Criminal Defence & Internal Investigations practice

1 February 2022

Neyah van der Aa (1984) started as a partner in Van Doorne’s Criminal Defence and Internal Investigations practice on February 1, 2022. He strengthens the team of partners: Jan Leliveld and Vanessa Liem. Together, they will work to increase the breadth and depth of this practice in coming years.

Saskia Laseur, managing partner: ‘Neyah is an important asset to Van Doorne. With his wealth of experience and widespread network, he will bring significant depth to our practice.’

Neyah van der Aa worked as a lawyer at Allen & Overy for the past eleven years and has now chosen to join Van Doorne. He is a specialist in the field of sanctions criminal law and investigations and, in particular, has extensive experience in financial integrity, money laundering prevention legislation, regulation of international sanctions and fraud.

Neyah has acted in some of the most high-profile financial criminal law and enforcement cases in the Netherlands and is recommended in publications such as Chambers and Legal 500, where he is described by clients as ‘impressive’ (Chambers 2020), ‘multi-talented’ (Legal 500 2021) and ‘always on the ball and fully focused on the best results’ (Chambers 2021). In 2019, Neyah won the European Rising Star Award in London in the ‘White collar crime’ category. Neyah regularly lectures and publishes on the implementation of compliance measures, investigations and international sanctions.

Neyah: ‘I’m really looking forward to starting at Van Doorne and I can’t wait to further develop the practice together with Vanessa Liem and Jan Leliveld. I regularly see how much impact the suspicion of wrongdoing or an infringement can have on a company’s business operations and strategy, even if the conduct occurred low down in the organization. My primary task is to ensure that a company or entrepreneur can continue as quickly and efficiently as possible and with integrity, taking into account the interests of all stakeholders. The character of Van Doorne fits my personal style very well: driven by ambition and passion for content, but ultimately always with full attention for an individual client and the result in his or her case.

Jan and Vanessa: ‘We are very happy with the arrival of Neyah. With his specific knowledge and experience he is a wonderful addition. He forms a link between our two practices and that of Ed van Liere. We now have an incredibly balanced and diverse team. We look forward to our collaboration with great enthusiasm.
