On 1 January, 2020 the new Dutch law on collective redress, the WAMCA, will enter into force. The law enables representative organisations - either ad hoc or existing - to request the court to order injunctive, but also monetary relief on behalf of a group of persons. The organisation and the collective claim must meet the strict admissibility criteria of the law. The procedure promotes settlement. It coordinates multiple collective claims pertaining to a single unlawful event by appointing a lead representative organisation. The law was adopted unanimously in Parliament.
