Bas focuses exclusively on conducting and advising on national and international arbitration and related proceedings before the national courts. He has particular expertise in construction arbitration and in investment arbitration. In addition, Bas acts in (cross-border) attachment and enforcement proceedings. Bas was involved in (advising on) arbitration proceedings under the ICC, NAI, LCIA, UNCITRAL and DIS arbitration rules.

In addition to being a partner in Van Doorne’s arbitration practice, Bas is a professor of Dispute Resolution & Arbitration at Maastricht University. Bas is also a CEDR-accredited mediator.

Bas obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on the creation of European private law. In 2006 and 2007, he was a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School. In 2017, Bas was a visiting professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Bas is on the editorial team of the Arbitration Journal.
